Kick-off Sunday gathering a success!

Woohoo- it was an exhilarating Sunday to gather folks of the ECV together to share about our vision and values. Of course, we were locked out of the church UP TO THE MINUTE of when we were supposed to start the thing. Fortunately, both Jonathan K and Emma S reassured me that such mishaps are a good sign--anything too polished or perfectly scheduled would be quite unideal. The MKs know best, after all!

I thought you'd all enjoy an online version of the values stuff we handed out on Sunday, so here it is:

ECV Vineyard Values (adapted from Vineyard USA values):

OUR VALUES

A. WORSHIP

1. We desire to worship God with our whole being. We want Jesus at the center as our Lord. We hunger for the fullness of the Spirit... His glory resting upon us!

Colossians 3:12-15: Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

2. We desire Spirit-enabled worship in a style that is intimate, dynamic, and life changing.

B. THE WORD

1. We want to hear the Word of God taught in a practical, inspiring way, in conjunction with His current prophetic word.

2. We aim to hear and obey God’s Word to us... to be “doers of the Word” who are being transformed into the likeness of Christ.

C. FELLOWSHIP, THE "KOINONIA" OF THE CHURCH

ACTS 2:42- And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

1. Therefore, we are the family of God, one Body in Jesus Christ, joined together as brothers and sisters forever.

2. We seek to develop real, intimate, enabling friendships together, built on covenant love, mutual responsibility and faithfulness. In particular, these friendships are built on being accountable to one another, confessing our sins and being supported in our transformation towards Christ-likeness

D. MINISTRY

1. We believe that all Christians are called to serve Christ in the power of His Spirit, in ways that build up the local church.

2. We are called to do the ministry of Christ in the world today to...
a. preach the Gospel of the Kingdom—Jesus Christ has claimed victory over death for us! In Christ, we have the gift of living reconciled to our Holy and Just God. In Christ, we have the opportunity to live in freedom from sin.

b. persuade people to repent and believe in Jesus through friendship and relationship: evangelism.

c. to operate with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, including healing the sick, raising the dead, speaking prophecy, performing miracles.
Matthew 10:8: Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

d. care for the poor and those in need

e. counsel those in need of God’s wisdom

f. teach believers to follow Christ

g. give our resources to the work of Christ

Luke 6:38: Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

h. train Christians to serve the Lord.

E. TRAINING

1. We believe that all Christians should be trained to “do the works of Christ.”

Matthew 28:18-20: Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
2 Timothy 2:2: And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.

2. We are committed to the “show and tell” model of “on the job” training, in which trainees are introduced to doing ministry functions with trainers and then are taught during and after the training experience.

3. We aim to provide training for all aspects of responsible Christian life and ministry.

F. SENDING

1. We aim to renew, refresh, and enable existing churches by sending trained personnel out on ministry trips.

2. We aim to build the Church of Jesus Christ by sending trained personnel to plant churches around the world.
